[Unit project 1] My Precious Things

 My artifact is Yukata. It is made of cotton and linen. Colors are red, navy blue, green and pink. The sleeves are open and can be worn well in the summer. It is often used various colors, and it is often worn at occasions such as fireworks and summer festivals. This is worn by my mother and grandmother.

 In the summer of fourteen years old, I was planning to go to a fireworks display.
 When I told my mother “I wanted to wear a yukata to the fireworks display” she said, “Ask your grandmother.”
 I told her the same thing and grandmother took me to her room. She opened the wardrobe in that room and took out one thing. She opened the chest of drawers and took out a colorful yukata from the wrapping paper.
“It was so beautiful! “I said, but Iike a something light blue.
“This is the yukata that both I and your mother wore. “she told me.“I wish you could wear it.”

When I was told with jewel-like beauty and straight eyes, I wanted to live up to her expectations.

“Of course, grandmother, I like it. Thank you.” I spoke. She laughed like a flower blooming on her face. I wore that yukata to a fireworks display. “Your yukata is so beautiful and colorful!” My friends said. I have a special feeling about wearing this yukata. This is because I can feel each person's life as this yukata is passed down from my grandmother to my mother and then to me. I feel as if this yukata is filled with the memories of my grandmother and mother.

 My artifact is yukata. I could feel my grandmother‘s and mother’s love for things from this artifact. And I have learned that if you take good care of it, we can use it for years. Recently fewer opportunities to wear yukata. If the number of people wearing yukata, a traditional Japanese garment, continues to decline, Japan’s traditions will collapse. To change this situation, I believe we need to take good care of our yukata, store them, and pass them on to the next generation.

 Also many people don’t know how to wear yukata. More and more young people don’t have it in the first place. In others to keep the tradition alive, I think it is important to create an environment where people of the generation, like grandmothers, can teach people how to wear the garment and make it easy to wear.
